Have we become Christians of Convenience??

I’ve been wanting to write about this topic for quite some time because I’ve watched a friend of mine do this over and over and over again and it really makes me mad.  I never said anything directly (just in my roundabout way), but I found myself being bothered and disturbed by the way she treated My God.  When you have a personal relationship with Christ you’d be amazed by the things that hadn’t bothered you before now cause you to look at people in a different light because of the way they treat the Savior of this world.  Watching her take for granted the God that made you and I, the God that sent His son to die for our sins, the God that’s forgiving, the God that you continuously use and take advantage of repeatedly.  I watched her take Him for granted in so many ways simply because she wanted or needed something.  I found myself becoming angry.  It angers me.

There’s something inside of me that despises that thought of someone using God to get what “we” want and when we have achieved whatever that may be we go back to doing exactly what we were doing.  Which simply put is not fair and not living according to God’s will or purpose. It causes me to ponder all of the reasons God sent His son into this world and how dare you use Him as a God of convenience to get what you want. So…with this information I began to think personally about ways in which I could show God that He’s much more precious to me.  Because He is! We sometimes have to take a sincere truthful look deep inside of our hearts to see what changes we need to make. What changes need to be made for the sake of your relationship with Christ??  And it’s necessary for us all to depend on God to make those necessary changes for the sake of our relationship with Him.  God wants our heart.

God wants our Heart!
He desires our heart!

If we want to be more like Him, then we must depend on Him to make the needed changes in our hearts.

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve." (Jeremiah 17:9-10)

If only people understood that God desires to be with us. He desires to spend time with us. He desires to build an everlasting relationship with us.  God knows the desires of our heart and He is always looking into our heart to see if we truly desire Him. Do you desire Him or do you simply desire Him when its convenient?  Do you call on Him daily or do you call on Him only in your time of need/want?

"As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.” (1 Chronicles 28:9)

When will we get to a point where we don’t become so caught up in our own desires and be completely caught up in His?

I think that when we seek God for the wrong reasons we are endangering ourselves.  There is a danger of falling and being separated from Him.  This happens when our desire is no longer directed towards knowing and pleasing God.  We shouldn’t want to be Christians that simply go through the motions and when we need something act as if God owes us something.  God doesn’t owe us anything!  We on the other hand, owe Him our lives!
